Mega uplifting music from The Cocteau Twins. From the title track it's clear this is gonna be something special. Guitars in and out, weaving and entwining, embellished, deified by Liz's voice. 'carolyn's fingers' is one of the great tracks of the late '80s, an eargasm indeed. A much-used word for some indie sounds, but this track really has an 'ethereal' quality, with angelic voices drifting to and fro in a pot-pourri of lilting sound. Then, later, we have driving rhythm, with deeper-voiced Elizabeth, on 'a kissed out red floatboat'. A beautiful album. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com.
