Otis Redding Posters

Jefferson Airplane siren Grace Slick said seeing Stax artist Otis Redding at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival was like seeing God onstage. But Otis, sadly, was too obviously flesh and blood, and perished in a plane crash with his backing band The Bar-Keys in Madison, Wisconsin, in December 1967, at the age of 26. On 7th December, 1967, he had recorded the timeless 'Dock Of The Bay', and some of his other most famous recordings were 'Respect' and 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'.

Backed by Booker T. and the M.G.s at Monterey, Otis Redding, along with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who made his big U.S. breakthrough at that event. Had he not cancelled his flight to Madison, which he could have through dangerous weather, Redding could have become as big a singing star as anyone. He died because he didn't want to miss a gig and let down his fans.
