Charles Darwin (1809-1882) was born in Shrewsbury, England. His theory of evolution was revolutionary, considering 19th Century England was a much more religious place than it is now. Even today, in deeply religious areas of the world, Darwin's views are denounced. His view, however, that all species have arrived to where they are at today, by natural selection, is generally held to be true.
