Sherlock Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of the most famous characters in British literature, but Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was also an accomplished writer of historical novels and adventure stories such as 'The Lost World (1912)'. Edinburgh-born Conan Doyle was a man of many interests, and he became interested in Spiritualism after a series of personal tragedies, and dabbled in politics. Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books were: 'A Study In Scarlet (1887)', 'The Sign Of Four (1890)', 'The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes (1892)', 'The Memoirs Of Sherlock Holmes (1894)', 'The Hound Of The Baskervilles (1902)', 'The Return Of Sherlock Holmes (1905)', 'The Valley Of Fear (1915)', 'His Last Bow (1917)', and 'The Case-Book Of Sherlock Holmes (1927)'.
