Joan of Arc (1412-1431)
Joan of Arc, or Jeanne d'Arc, is one of the most famous women in history, and she became a French heroine. Joan of Arc acquired an almost supernatural aura after helping to defeat the English, but she was later betrayed to the English, and cruelly executed at the age of just 19. Canonised in 1920, Joan is also known as the Maid of Orleans.
