One of the best and most
underrated BBC sitcoms of the 1990s, '2point4 Children' had a
good run from 1991 to 1999, being curtailed by its
leading character Gary Olsen's sad demise through cancer
in 2000.
Written by Andrew
Marshall, '2point4 Children' was one of a number of good
BBC sitcoms beginning in the early '90s, with Olsen's Ben
Porter character a regular guy, who acts like a big kid
when typical teenage son David (John Pickard) is around.
Belinda Lang played Ben's frustrated, likeable wife Bill.
Pretty and precocious daughter Jenny (Clare Woodgate/Clare
Buckfield) and sex mad neighbour Rona (Julia Mills) were
the other major characters.
'2point4 Children' did
have a propensity to get out of the normal family sitcom
loop, having both musical specials, and often strong
surreal elements, including a parody of 'The Prisoner',
which starred Roger Lloyd Pack.
