Co-produced by the BBC and the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), 'Tenko' dealt with the harsh realities of life for British, Australian and Dutch women in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Singapore during World War Two.

Much acclaimed, 'Tenko' ran for three series and 31 episodes, from 1981 to 1984, and there was also a telemovie in 1985, 'Tenko Reunion'. The series was created by Lavinia Warner, and had an outstanding cast, including Stephanie Cole, Ann Bell, Burt Kwouk, Stephanie Beacham, Louise Jameson, and Jean Anderson.
