Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993)
Audrey Hepburn (real name Audrey Ruston) was one of the most photographed faces of the 1960s. After her career as a successful actress Audrey became known for her work helping children, while working as a special ambassador for UNICEF.

Coming from a privileged background (her Mother was a Dutch baroness) Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium on May 4th, 1929. Audrey, nevertheless, endured harsh times in World War Two during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, when her health suffered physically and mentally.

After a spell as a ballet dancer and then model Audrey Hepburn gravitated towards acting in the late 1940s. She was to find stardom when appearing alongside Gregory Peck in 'Roman Holiday (1953)', and won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Princess Ann in the movie. Audrey then went on to star in hit films such as 'Breakfast At Tiffany's (1961)' and 'My Fair Lady (1964)'. As Eliza Doolittle in the latter, "Move your bloomin' arse!" didn't sound right coming from her!

Apart from her Oscar win, Audrey Hepburn was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar on four occasions - for her roles in 'Sabrina (1954)', 'The Nun's Story (1959)', 'Breakfast At Tiffany's', and 'Wait Until Dark (1967)'. Audrey's rendition of 'Moon River' in 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' also remains one of the most iconic moments in film history.

On January 20th, 1993, in Tolochenaz, Switzerland, Audrey Hepburn died of cancer. She was awarded the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award posthumously at the Oscars that year.
