Burt Lancaster (1913-1994)
Former acrobat Burt Lancaster, with a genial smile and powerful physique, was one of the most popular movie stars from the mid-1940s to the early 1960s.

New Yorker Lancaster got his big break in 'The Killers (1946)', and used his physique to good effect in 'The Crimson Pirate (1952)' and 'Trapeze (1956)'. His beach love scene with Deborah Kerr in 'From Here To Eternity (1953)' is one of the most famous scenes in film history. His most famous role was probably as Robert Stroud in 'Birdman Of Alcatraz (1962)', about a man who was imprisoned for decades, but the beauty of birds kept him going. Burt Lancaster had won a Best Actor Oscar two years earlier for his title role in 'Elmer Gantry (1960)'.
