Henry Fonda

Henry Fonda (1905-1982)
Up there with James Stewart as a likeable leading man, Henry Fonda's film career spanned six decades, culminating in his first Best Actor Oscar in 1981, for his final big screen film, produced by daughter Jane, 'On Golden Pond (1981)'. Other notable performances came in 'Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)', 'The Grapes Of Wrath (1940)', 'Mister Roberts (1955)', and probably the most impressive of all, as the conscientious juror in 'Twelve Angry Men (1957)'. Fonda had witnessed a lynching as a young boy, and, scarred by this, he seemed to play roles standing up to injustice, which his children, Jane and Peter, perpetuated in their own careers.
