Hollywood Tough Guy Jack Palance Obituary

Jack Palance, who died of natural causes on November 10th, was a Hollywood tough guy, who famously played up to his image in the 1991 cowboy comedy 'City Slickers', for which he won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.

Of Ukrainian descent, Palance was born in Lattimer Mines, Pennsylvania, and, not surprisingly, was a fairly successful former professional heavyweight boxer, and was wounded in combat in the Second World War, being awarded a purple heart. Beginning in the early 1950s, Jack's film career soon took off, and his most notable role was probably as menacing Jack Wilson in the classic western 'Shane (1953)'.

Jack Palance passed away in Montecito, California, surrounded by his family. He was 87.
