Richard Widmark

Richard Widmark (1914-2008)
Born in Sunrise, Minnesota, on December 26th, 1914, Richard Widmark was often overlooked as one of the best movie actors of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.

Starting out in radio drama and Broadway, Widmark's film career kicked off big time as the psycho Tommy Udo in 'Kiss Of Death (1947)', in which he shockingly pushed a disabled woman down some stairs, but he was Oscar nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category!

Normally playing tough guys, Richard Widmark's major films include 'Saint Joan (1957)', 'Judgment At Nuremberg (1961)', 'Madigan (1968) (Widmark later reprised the role of Madigan in the TV series of the same name)', and 'Murder On The Orient Express (1974)'. He famously starred as Jim Bowie alongside John Wayne's Davy Crockett in 'The Alamo (1960)', and was impressively heroic in 'The Long Ships (1963)', as a Viking leader taking on mad Moor Sidney Poitier.

Richard Widmark died at home in Roxbury, Connecticut, after a long illness, on March 24th, 2008. He was 93.
