Robert
Redford (1936- )
Like 'Butch And Sundance' buddy Paul Newman,
Robert Redford has gained a reputation as being a caring
liberal, as well as being one of the biggest talents in
films since the 1960s - as an actor and director.
Robert Redford was born in Santa Monica, California, on August 18th, 1936, and had
early aspirations as an athlete and artist, before
studying acting. He made an impression in a theatre
version of 'Barefoot In The Park' before starring in the
film version in 1967, opposite Jane Fonda. Robert Redford
really made it big as the Sundance Kid in 'Butch Cassidy
And The Sundance Kid (1969)', opposite Newman, and the
pair also starred together in 'The Sting (1973)'. Redford
appeared in a host of hit films in the 1970s, including
'The Candidate (1972)', 'The Way We Were (1973)', 'The
Great Gatsby (1974)', and 'All The President's Men
(1976)'.
In later years, Redford has also gained a reputation as a
fine director, winning an Oscar for Best Director with 'Ordinary People (1980)', and he is one of the most respected figures
in the film business. Robert Redford was awarded the Academy Honorary Award in 2002. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com.
