Written by Paul Rance
Sunday, 16 April 2006

Pointer Sisters June, the youngest of the sisters, died of cancer in April, aged only 52.

The Pointer Sisters are best remembered for '80s hits 'I'm So Excited', 'Jump (For My Love)', 'Automatic', and 'Slow Hand' - all top 20 hits both sides of the Atlantic.

From Oakland, California, The Pointer Sisters also won two Grammy Awards. For 'Jump (For My Love)' they won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, and, for 'Automatic', Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices. They were given a star, in 1994, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and are often regarded as the most important all-female American group after The Supremes.
