Mystery Plane Music Reviews

Punishment Block

A classic. MP back in '82 consisted of musicians who went on to form or join The Cure, Modern Art and Lives of Angels. Some good catchy, straight pop songs "When the Money Runs Out" and "My Obsession" to more off-beat numbers such as "Burning Desire" and "Nosedive" with backward tapes running riot. "Death Sentence" is a superb rocky number and the highlight of the highlights.

The Dead Presley Tapes

First listening thought 'jeez!' Second listening ditto. Ultra-weirdness takes time to comprehend, with the vocals hardly ever 'straight', except on Holly's "That Will Be the Day" and The Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night". The Vocals are eerified to good effect on "Nosedive" and "Big Train". Instrumentally, MP are orthodox on this tape and "Hey! Big Brother" is a rhythmic delight.

Fractured

From the roaring "Disturbance" to the eerie "Curse of the Body Snatcher" to the weepy "Night" MP contunue to progress.
