Bea Arthur, seemed, on the surface, as tough as old boots, but as is often the case, the outside exterior can be deceptive.
Born in New York City on May 13th, 1922, Bernice Frankel became Bea Arthur, who won fame as a comedienne, actress, and singer. Bea Arthur first really achieved fame, when playing the character Maude Findlay, on the 1970s sitcom 'Maude', for which she won an Emmy. She was to win another Emmy as Dorothy Zbornak on the 1980s sitcom 'The Golden Girls'.
Bea Arthur was a kindly soul, who cared about animals. She died of cancer in Los Angeles on April 25th, 2009.
