The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|
|||||
Angola's World Cup debut, against their former colonial masters, got off to a poor start. Pauleta shot just wide after only 15 seconds, but tapped in soon after following good work from Luis Figo down the left. But Angola soon settled down, showing good purpose, with Andre's long range effort bringing a fine save out of Ricardo. Cristiano Ronaldo came close twice for Portugal, heading aginst the bar, and seeing a thumping shot saved magnificently by Joao Ricardo. Portugal played pretty football throughout, but there was little end product, and, in the second half, they were forced to try shots from long range, though one superb Maniche effort was well saved. Angola were resolute, but lacked invention in the final third. That said, on this showing they have nothing to fear from Mexico or Iran. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
