The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|
|||||
Brazil began their defence of the World Cup with a record eighth consecutive World Cup finals win, but they were not convincing. Ronaldo was substituted and Adriano missed an easy chance, and contributed little else. Kaka's wonderful left foot strike late in the first half sealed victory, but apart from a couple of efforts from the lively Ronaldinho, which produced two great saves fom Stipe Pletikosas, Brazil looked sluggish. The large Croatian support was the most vocal of the tournament, and spurred the Croats on, in this infamous stadium, earlier used for the 1936 Nazi-hijacked Olympics. Though they played well, Croatia couldn't quite create enough clear openings. Both sides should qualify from this group, but Brazil will need to up their game considerably if they are to win the World Cup for a sixth time. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
