Costa Rica 0 Ecuador 3
C. Tenorio 8
Delgado 54
Kaviedes 90

HT: 0-1
Att: 50, 000

Ecuador progress past the group stage for the first time in a World Cup finals, cruising to victory over a lacklustre Costa Rica.

Carlos Tenorio opened the scoring, converting Luis Valencia's good cross with a lightning header. Ecuador's second came, when Agustin Delgado hit a firm angled shot, which beat Costa Rican goalkeeper Jose Francisco Porras at his near post. A fine cross from Edison Mendez was expertly converted by Ivan Kaviedes for a late third. An exquisite left foot curler from sub Alvaro Saborio, which hit the crossbar, was Costa Rica's best effort.

The iguanas on the Galapagos Islands have never seen anything like it, and Ecuador have maybe even surprised themselves.
