GROUP E

Cologne, Saturday, June 17th

Czech Republic 0 Ghana 2
Gyan 2
Muntari 82

HT: 0-1
Att: 45, 000

Ghana deservedly beat a disappointing Czech Republic, getting off to a great start when youngster Asamoah Gyan shot low past Chelsea's Petr Cech in the second minute.

The West Africans wasted good chances to go further ahead in the first half, and though Karel Poborsky shot just wide, and Tomas Rosicky made a couple of surging runs to try and inspire the Czechs, Ghana were the better side.

Pavel Nedved headed in right at the start of the second half, but the Czechs were denied by an offside flag. The Czech Republic's hopes really began to fade when Tomas Ujfalusi brought down Matthew Amoah in the area and was red carded, but Gyan could only hit the post with the penalty. Cech was keeping his country in the game with a string of fine saves, helped by tame finishing, until a good move set up Sully Muntari to blast home Ghana's second, and they comfortably went on to gain their first win in the World Ciup Finals, and leave the Czech Republic with a tough task of getting out of Group E.
