The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|

Nice people the Poles, but they've been unimpressive at World Cups since the days of Ziggy Boniek in the early and mid-1980s. With a massive following in Gelsenkirchen, Poland almost had home advantage, but their performance was another big let-down. Yes, they had a goal questionably ruled out for offside when 1-0 down, but it was another uninspiring performance at a major finals. A neat header from Carlos Tenorio had the iguanas on the Galapagos Islands leaping out of their seats, and a simple tap-in from Agustin Delgado late in the game sealed Poland's fate. The Poles hit the woodwork twice after the second goal, but they had woken up too late. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
