The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|
|||||
A dreadful game for 70 minutes, this game livened up considerably late on in front of a passionate Dortmund crowd. Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski missed great chances in the first half, for the Germans, and after Poland's Radoslaw Sobolewski was sent off for two bookable offences, Celtic's Artur Boruc was in inspired form in the Polish goal, and looked to have helped his country gain a draw. But, Germany being Germany, their best period came in the closing minutes. First Klose, then Michael Ballack, hit Poland's bar in the same move, but Germany were not to be denied, and a cross from impressive substitute David Odonkor allowed fellow sub Oliver Neuville to slide in the late, late winner for the hosts - and break Polish hearts. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
