The 2006 World Cup in Germany

This was a fairly entertaining Group D game, with the Aztecs taking on the Persians. Or Mexico against Iran. Mexico came into this game as favourites, but Iran matched them for most of the match, until a double defensive cock up cost them dearly, with Omar Bravo neatly finishing, following Antonio Zinha's astute pass. A great header from Zinha wrapped things up. Earlier, Mexico had taken the lead from a well worked free kick, which Bravo finished off, but Iran came back strongly, when Mexican 'keeper Oswaldo Sanchez flapped at a corner, which Yahya Golmohammadi chipped in. Sanchez had just flown in following the tragic loss of his father, and was embraced in emotional scenes at the end of the game. So who's gonna be harsh on him? He's a brave boy. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
