The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|
|||||
A soaring header from Arsenal's Philippe Senderos, from a free kick, and a controversial Alexander Frei goal saw the Swiss topping a group in the World Cup finals for the first time - and ended the dreams of a South Korean side, who, after a fantastic finals in 2002, looked a pale shadow of that side. The Frei goal killed off the game in the second half. He had been initially flagged offside, but had been played onside by a touch from a South Korean player. Frei had earlier hit the post in the same half with a fierce shot, but South Korea came close themselves, hitting the bar through Kim Jin Kyu in the second half, and Lee Chun Soo forcing a brilliant save out of Pascal Zuberbuehler in the first half. But, overall, Switzerland were the better side. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
