Togo's World Cup dream ended in Dortmund, despite the Africans being the dominant side in the first half, and having a good penalty claim, for a foul on Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor, turned down. There were no signs of the in-fighting in the Togolese camp over money, as they played well in the first half.

The Swiss took the lead, when Alexander Frei touched in from close range. The same player nearly scored a sensational goal in the second half, when just inside the Togo half he tried to chip the 'keeper, Kossi Agassa, but his effort just went over the bar. Switzerland's Tranquillo Barnetta drilled in a fine angled drive late on, to give his side a fine chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.
