The 2006 World Cup in Germany
|
|||||
A dire game, easily the worst of the tournament, saw the Ukraine qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup finals for the first time, and so ended the Africans chances of qualifying. The Ukraine only needed to draw to qualify and made no real effort to win the game, even after the harsh sending off, for two bookable offences, of Tunisia's Zied Jaziri on the stroke of half-time. The decisions didn't really go for the Tunisians all game, having a penalty appeal for handball turned down against Andriy Voronin, and eventually going down to a debatable penalty, awarded for a foul by Karim Haggui on Andriy Shevchenko, who easily converted the spot kick. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
