YOU'VE GOT MAIL Uplifting film, which keeps the viewer involved on a personal level. We so want what happens to happen. Tom Hanks plays Joe Fox, an owner of a New York bookshop chain, which is threatening to put a small bookshop out of business - which is owned by Kathleen Kelly, played by Meg Ryan. The two protagonists are unwittingly conducting a love affair by e-mail, and, though it's obvious what will happen fairly early in the film, this movie skilfully manipulates our emotions. Predictability is good! Also high marks for the way the music is brilliantly interwoven into this film, and is very evocative. Following 'Sleepless In Seattle', this is another hit for the Hanks/Ryan/Nora Ephron (director) triumvirate. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. |
