ABBA Brief BiographyFormed in 1972, ABBA consisted of songwriters and musicians Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, and singers Agnetha Faltskog and Anni-Frid 'Frida' Lyngstad. ABBA were the group that broke up the domination of Western popular music by American and British acts. With rich harmonies, catchy tunes, superb orchestration, and with a Swedish musical take on things, this two boy/two girl group sounded different to everyone else. Winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, with 'Waterloo', signalled the foursome's arrival (no pun intended!) on the international stage. Their greatest songs include 'Fernando', 'Dancing Queen', 'Super Trouper', and 'Thank You For The Music'. The recent success of the musical based on ABBA songs, 'Mamma Mia!', has further cemented their legacy as one of the greatest groups of all time - in any genre. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com.
