Alighieri Dante (1265-1321)
Italian-born Alighieri Dante was the first great European poet of the second millennium AD, and his 'Divina Commedia ('Divine Comedy')' is one of the most famous works in literature, with Dante's description of hell being much interpreted across all the arts. Dante also wrote 'Vita Vuova' and 'Convivo'.
