Martin Frobisher (1534-1594)
From Wakefield, Yorkshire, Martin Frobisher had a varied career at sea, being charged three times for piracy, was a vice-admiral under Francis Drake, fought against the Spanish Armada, and the British navigator went on three voyages looking for the north-west passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and along the Arctic coast of Canada, a country he ended up on all three occasions. Frobisher died through a gunshot wound in a siege in France. Frobisher Bay is named after him.
