Iggy Pop
Born James Newell
Osterberg, Jr., on April 21st, 1947, in Muskegon,
Michigan, Iggy Pop is one of the more intelligent rock
stars, but has been as wild as any rocker - having to
fight serious drug problems, and also being known for his
penchant to mutilate himself on stage.
Especially when he was with The Stooges, Iggy has been
one of the most influential of all rock singers. Though,
as with the likes of the equally influential Velvet
Underground, he has never been a really big commercial
success.
Along with Lou Reed and David Bowie, Iggy Pop is credited
as being one of the forerunners of punk rock, with his
"in your face" aggressive stage persona and
catchy, but spiky, songs. His most famous songs include
'Lust For Life', 'The Passenger', 'No Fun', and 'I'm
Bored'. He also invented the stage dive.
His colourful life has included a close friendship with
David Bowie, seeing rock 'n' roll casualties like Brian
Wilson and Jim Morrison in his youth, and playing Yelgrun
in 'Star Trek : Deep Space Nine'!
