Christopher Plummer (1929-2021)
Canadian-born Christopher Plummer had an illustrious career, though he probably didn't gain as many big film roles as his talent deserved. He did, however, become both the oldest Oscar winner (aged 82 he won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role as Hal in Beginners (2010)) and oldest actor to be nominated for an Oscar (aged 88 he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role as J. Paul Getty in All the Money in the World (2017).

Plummer's most famous role was as Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound Of Music (1965), but he was massively impressive a year earlier as mad Emperor Commodus in The Fall Of The Roman Empire.
