Lee
Marvin (1924-1987)
Like Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin was a likeable
tough guy, who often brought a droll sense of humour to
his roles.
New York-born Marvin won a Best Actor Oscar playing Kid Shelleen/Tim Strawn in the
unusual Western 'Cat Ballou (1965)', and had a UK
number one hit single in 1970 with his rendition of 'Wand'rin' Star', from the
film version of the stage musical 'Paint Your Wagon (1969)'. His macho roles
saw him in 'The Wild One (1953)', as a biker with a
certain Marlon Brando rebelling against everything, and
as a hard as nails major in 'The Dirty Dozen (1967)'.
