Peter Ustinov

Peter Ustinov (1921-2004)
Peter Ustinov was one of the greatest artistic talents to come out of the UK in the 20th Century. An actor, director, playwright, screenwriter, novelist, and very witty chat show host, Ustinov was born in London to a Russian/German father and French mother, which no doubt inspired his cosmopolitan view of the world.

Best known as an actor, Peter Ustinov won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Arthur Simon Simpson in 'Topkapi (1964)'. He also starred as Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot in 'Death On The Nile (1978)', and will be fondly remembered as snivelling slave trader Lentulus Batiatus in 'Spartacus (1960)', for which he also won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. In his later years, Ustinov spent much of his time being a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF - the United Nations Children's Fund.
