Pulp were one of the big three of the Britpop bands alongside Blur and Oasis. Formed in 1978 the Sheffield group were a good example of how "sticking at it" can eventually bring rewards. In the '90s Pulp had a raft of hits, including Common People and Disco 2000. Frontman Jarvis Cocker, in 2018, spoke at a rally in Sheffield in support of the tree protestors in the city, who were against the council's very controversial tree-felling policy.
