German-born Albert Einstein (1879-1955) is widely recognised as the greatest genius of the 20th Century, and his theory of relativity was one of the greatest examples of profound scientific thought. Einstein won the Nobel prize for Physics in 1921, for his work in quantum theory, and, ironically, his voicing his concern to American President Roosevelt, about the Nazis developing nuclear weapons, led to the Americans developing and using them.
