BBC TV SERIES SPOOKS 'Spooks' is a BBC1 drama, which revolves around MI-5. The series began in 2002, and has been one of the big dramas on the BBC in recent years. In the US, the series is broadcast under the title 'MI-5'. Spooks Series 9 (2010) Series Summary The series where Lucas North (Richard Armitage) turns out to have a very dark past indeed, and he encounters an old, unwelcome acquaintance, Michael. Spooks Series 8 (2009) Episode Summaries Spooks Series 8 Main Cast List Peter Firth as Harry Pearce The eighth series of 'Spooks' saw a very powerful start. It's when the BBC puts on drama of this high quality that you despair at the money they waste on dreadful, mostly distasteful, food programmes. Harry (Peter Firth) is kidnapped, and footage shows his 'death', but the team realise he's still alive. What follows is chilling stuff, and people Harry cares about are used to try and make him divulge a secret which may save a few people, but kill thousands. Episode 2 (BBC3, November 6th; BBC1, November 11th) Britain's energy crisis is desperate, and the dilemma is whether to deal with an evil politician from East - in return for an end to that energy crisis. An episode which seems prescient, considering the way a lot of European countries are now beholden to others for their energy. Episode 3 (BBC3, November 13th; BBC1, November 18th) A tragic end to the third episode, as an anti-globalisation group take a group of the world's richest men hostage - and begin to put them on trial on the internet. The net audience have the power to decide whether the magnates live or die. Ros (Hermione Norris) ends up as one of the hostages, and, as she tries to do the right thing, new problems emerge... Episode 4 (BBC3, November 20th; BBC1, November 25th) Lucas goes off the rails as he finds his girlfriend is not just looking for love, and he is haunted by an unpleasant visitor from his past, who seems to be intent on tormenting him further, until, right at the end, he gives Lucas some intriguing information. The ending is unexpected and shocking. Episode 5 (BBC3, November 27th; BBC1, December 2nd) Ros is in Emma Peel mode, as a guy she once looked up to has a few surprises in store for her. Lucas, meanwhile, is finding surprises of his own. Episode 6 (BBC3, December 4th; BBC1, December 9th) This episode makes recent UK bank scandals seem like very small beer, and no-one is untouched as things get very vicious and messy indeed - especially involving Lucas. Episode 7 (BBC3, December 11th; BBC1, December 16th) A brilliant, highly emotional episode involving Muslim/Hindu, Pakistan/India tensions being exploited. The Spooks team have a boy in the camp of a Muslim group about to commit a terrorist act, and the twists and turns make for excellent drama. Episode 8 (BBC1, December 23rd) Ros and Lucas are in a race against time to prevent an India-Pakistan nuclear war! A literally explosive ending, with possibly tragic consequences... It has been confirmed that filming for the ninth series of 'Spooks' will begin in February 2010. - Paul Rance/booksmusicfilmstv.com. Spooks Main Cast List Peter Firth as Harry Pearce |
