23. Raquel Welch

While an unlikely movie to launch a star, One Million Years B.C. certainly put Raquel Welch at the front of the queue as far as '60s female sex symbols were concerned. In her ragged bikini, Raquel stole most scenes from her grunting male co-stars in the film.

Raquel Welch was to the 1960s what Marilyn Monroe was to the 1950s. But whereas Marilyn's vulnerability was obvious, Raquel seemed confident and self-assured, and she summed up the growing empowerment of women in the '60s, including in politics and in business.

One Million Years BC Summary [1966]

booksmusicfilmstv.com Comments on One Million Years BC
Raquel Welch famously struts her stuff in a dubious bikini, and seemingly everyone else speaks one word: "Akita", which seemed to surface in one or two other similar pics. 'One Million Years BC' seems to have grown in status, and should, in terms of accuracy, be taken with a pinch, nay, a cellar, of salt. If you do that, it can be seen as the fairly entertaining and curious movie it is. - Paul Rance.
