Yusuf Islam was born Stephen Demetre Georgiou, in London, on July 21st, 1948, and was to become one of the most notable of all British singer-songwriters, as Cat Stevens.

His most famous songs include 'Morning Has Broken', 'Matthew and Son', 'Moonshadow', 'Wild World', 'Father and Son', 'I Love My Dog', and 'Can't Keep It In'. He specialised in simple arrangements, playing the acoustic guitar or piano. He also composed music for the early '70s movie, 'Harold and Maude'.

Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam has sold some 40 million albums during a career which began in the 1960s. The name Cat was given to him by a girl who said he had eyes like a cat.
