The band's name came from 'Country' Joe McDonald and lead guitarist Barry 'The Fish' Melton, and they were one of the pioneers of psychedelic music, especially with their 1967 album, 'Electric Music For The Mind And Body'. Country Joe & The Fish also played the prestigious Monterey Pop Festival of 1967. Both Joe and Barry have good hearts, and are still trying to make the world a better place - for humans, animals, and the environment. See what they're up to... THE NICE The Nice consisted of Keith Emerson (organ, piano), Brian Davison (drums), Lee Jackson (bass, vocals), and David O'List (guitar). O'List left the band late in 1968.
Principal Albums of The Nice THE TROGGS Fronted by ol' rubberneck himself, Reg Presley, The Troggs are fondly remembered for a number of great songs, including, of course, 'Wild Thing' and 'Love Is All Around', plus other classics such as 'With A Girl Like You', 'I Can't Control Myself', and 'Anyway That You Want Me'. ![]() Wild Thing ~Troggs Platinum (Audio CD available from Amazon.co.uk) THE TURTLES The Turtles, originally The Tyrtles, were an American group popular in the 1960s for their rich harmonies and memorable tunes. The Bob Dylan song, 'It Ain't Me Babe', gave The Turtles their first American top 10 in the summer of 1965, but their golden year was 1967, with the hits 'She'd Rather Be With Me' and 'Happy Together' - the latter being a number one in the US. Also memorable were the silly lines in their songs, i.e. "So happy together/How is the weather? (Happy Together)", and "I think you're groovy/Let's go to a movie (Elenore)". But Otis, sadly, was too obviously flesh and blood, and perished in a plane crash with his backing band The Bar-Keys in Madison, Wisconsin, in December 1967, at the age of 26. On 7th December, 1967, he had recorded the timeless 'Dock Of The Bay', and some of his other most famous recordings were 'Respect' and 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'. Backed by Booker T. and the M.G.s at Monterey, Otis Redding, along with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Who, made his big U.S. breakthrough at that event. Had he not cancelled his flight to Madison, which he could have through dangerous weather, Redding could have become as big a singing star as anyone. He died because he didn't want to miss a gig and let down his fans.
