Roy
Orbison's death in December, 1988 was doubly sad, with
his career on an upturn, with a hit with The Travelling
Wilburys, and new recordings in the pipeline. Roy's
career in Britain yielded three number one records -
'Only The Lonely', 'It's Over', and 'Oh, Pretty Woman'.
Other soaring Orbison anthems included 'In Dreams' and
'Running Scared'. However, he had a life riddled with
tragedy, losing a wife and two children.
When Roy
toured with The Beatles in the early '60s, if he
respected their talent, then legend has it they respected
his even more. Roy Orbison's voice, like Harry Nilsson's
and John Lennon's, had a haunting quality, which could
move the hardest heart.
