1. Partners in Crime, April 5th, 2008
Catherine Tate makes her series debut as the Doctor's assistant Donna Noble, and wasn't quite the screaming harpy I had expected. The 'villains' in this episode are the killer cute Adipose, with Sarah Lancashire as their manic 'mummy'. When you realise they feed off the fat of people the cute factor diminishes!

4. & 5. The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky, April 26th & May 3rd, 2008
Christopher Ryan stars as the remarkably big-headed Sontaran chief in this two parter about a useful way of getting more cars off the road, as the Sontarans try to take over Earth! Old 'favourites' the Sontarans also seem more into violence than even the Daleks and Cybermen. We also see the return of Martha - and she doesn't appear to be quite herself. Sneaky whizzkid Luke Rattigan (Ryan Sampson) doesn't seem to know the Sontarans as well as he thought either...

A turn up, the Doctor has a daughter, who has stunning powers of her own, but things take a tragic turn - or do they? Look out for a very moving scene with Martha and one of the appealing fish-like Hath, in this episode with a powerful anti-war theme.

8. & 9. Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, May 31st & June 7th, 2008
After watching this two parter, the next time you hear someone say: "Hey, who turned out the lights?" you'll be very afraid...The Vashta Nerada are one of the more sinister foes of the Doctor, and have been hiding in the books of a massive library, and are invisible, except for when their shadows are seen enveloping their victims. 10. Midnight, June 14th, 2008
For me, just about the worst episode of 'Doctor Who' since it returned in 2005. The repetitious dialogue wasn't some clever psychological script, it was just lazy writing. A great cast were wasted on the shuttle trip to hell...

Audience figures: 7.3 million.

11. Turn Left, June 21st, 2008
This was much more like it, though the Beeb were ingeniously saving their budget with a plethora of flashbacks from previous episodes. Billie Piper as Rose seems tougher than before, while Donna seems more cowed. An interesting episode about the consequences of taking a different path...

Audience figures: 7 million.

Writer: Russell T. Davies; Director: Graeme Harper

12. & 13. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, June 28th & July 5th, 2008
The return of Davros, the Daleks, and a multitude of assistants - Rose, Martha, Donna, Sarah Jane Smith, and Captain Jack - make it an impressive finale, though this fourth series has been disappointing overall.

In this two part series climax, Davros (his first appearance in 'Dr. Who' since 1988) steals the Earth and 26 other planets, and the Doctor seems to be in greater danger than ever before...

Audience figures: 8.78 million - 'The Stolen Earth'; 10.57 million - 'Journey's End'.
