'Quantum Leap' was an inspired Donald P. Bellisario American sci-fi TV series, starring Scott Bakula as the engaging scientist, Dr. Samuel Beckett, a somewhat unwitting time traveller, who ends up having the body of different people.

Travelling in his own lifetime, Sam's given the chance to change history - big and small. His friend Al (Dean Stockwell) often seems casual, as Sam's travails intensify, slapping his hi-tech gizmo, like someone banging a faulty old TV.

There were 97 45 minute episodes of 'Quantum Leap', running originally in the United States on NBC, from March 26th, 1989, to May 5th, 1993. In the UK, the series ran on BBC2, from 1990-1994. There was a lot of putting right what once was wrong, but 'Quantum Leap' never got too heavy, and retained a happy mix of seriousness and humour.
