Mulder and Scully will be remembered as one of the great double acts in the history of TV. 'The X-Files' was a gripping, long-running American TV series, first aired on the FOX network, created by Chris Carter, and running from 1993 to 2002, plus a 1998 spin-off movie. There were 9 seasons of 'The X-Files', and its two charismatic leads, David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, became stars. They were two FBI agents investigating the strangest of cases, some paranormal, some conspiracy theories, some a bit of both. Though the two never had an on-screen affair, the sexual tension between the two was palpable. 'The X-Files' was never quite the same after Duchovny left, though that was no fault of the impressive John Doggett character. By the time of Duchovny's departure, the show had began to run out of steam. 'The X-Files' will always be remembered, however, as one of the most novel of TV series, and the characters were well drawn. Some of the other impressive characters included the sinister Cancer Man, snappy boss Skinner, and the three computer nerds - who were to have their own spin-off series, 'The Lone Gunmen'. Maybe 'The X-Files' was even prescient, too, as its slogan, "Trust No One", was not only suited to the series, but is applicable to the world we live in today - sadly. - Paul Rance. |
