Dustin Hoffman is one of the most talented film actors, who has been particularly effective playing tortured or troubled men, whether the gauche young man of 'The Graduate (1967)', the sad, doomed loser in 'Midnight Cowboy (1969)', the nervous quarry in 'Marathon Man (1976)', the desperate father in 'Kramer versus Kramer (1979)', or the lovable autistic brother in 'Rain Man (1988)'.
