MARVEL COMICS - A BRIEF HISTORY
Marvel Comics, under the umbrella Timely Comics, was founded by publisher Martin Goodman in 1939, and its first issue came out in October, 1939. Early superheroes were The Human Torch and Namor The Sub-Mariner. In March, 1941, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby creation Captain America first appeared.
There was a lull in the 1950s, as Atlas Comics, until the early 1960s, which was Marvel Comics golden age, as such characters as Fantastic Four, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, X-Men, The Mighty Thor, and Ant-Man were created, via a talented team including Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and Kirby. Spider-Man and X-Men, particularly, have been box office gold on the big screen in the early part of the 21st Century.
