Coldshore At Night and Growing Up In The Country paint a picture of how rural life in Britain was, even up until recent decades, when an indoor toilet seemed a luxury! The two Orcop Hill poems conjure up images of an English paradise.
One notable aspect of this booklet is its diversity of themes. Gothic Son, for instance, underlines some of the bigotry that still exists in Britain today, where people are often mainly judged on appearance alone.
Gwynn's love of animals is in evidence in Snowy and Animal Hospital and Clarabelle. There are moving poems about loss - My Longed For, Distant Paramour and From The Heart. Playful wit amuses in Early Demise and You Fat Old Potater...There are also poems about love of family, displayed in Gwynn's poetry about her grandsons Peter and Sam.
Coldshore At Night And Other Poems is an enjoyable read, because it encapsulates Gwynn's life in poetical form. It's also for a good cause.
