THE POETRY OF PHIL KNIGHT

DYLANATION (printed and published by Green Arrow Publishing)

A collection of poetry by Phil Knight

A new collection of poetry from this talented and well-established writer. Based in South Wales, Phil Knight has enjoyed considerable success as a poet for a number of years.

Dylanation is not only a 'celebration' of Dylan Thomas, in the centenary year of his birth, but also demonstrates Phil Knight's well-known idiosyncratic sense of humour, along with his equally delightful mischievous use of irony, satire and nostalgia.

The fourteen new poems in this collection are written with passion and wit and above all, with a refreshing sense of honesty, not only for the title's subject, but also for the creative use of poetic language.

Priced £4 each, copies are available directly from the author Phil Knight, at this address: 12 Cook-Rees Avenue, Neath, West Glamorgan, Wales, SA11 1UN. Payments by cheque/P.O. made payable to P. Knight.

PARK WALK
By PHIL KNIGHT

Blasted with hoses
the Town's war memorial
is cleaned of grime
for Sunday's testaments.

I walk through the Arch
of Mars into a park at peace.
The fallen leaves are a golden
carpet muffling my footfalls.

The sun breaks through
the tree line, it is red
and almost old in colour
with a halo of white clouds.

I stop at the small pond
where incoming ducks land
on brown black glowing water
the gulls fly by overhead.

The roar of a fighter jet silences
bird calls and I look into
the cold blue sky, the vapour trail
I see is like a tear from God's eye.

ANOTHER COUNTRY
By PHIL KNIGHT

THE PAST IS ANOTHER COUNTRY
AND THE FUTURE IS OUT OF TOWN
THE PRESENT IS JUST SOPHISTRY
FAKE AS THE MAN FROM PILTDOWN.

WHEN THE WORLD IS A HORROR STORY
LIFE IS THE IMAGE ON THE BIG SCREEN.
A PERSON VISITING FROM ALPHA CENTAURI
WOULD BELIEVE EACH DAY WAS HALLOWEEN.

IN EVERY FLOWER THE SUN IS A SEED
EACH RAIN DROP IS ONE WITH THE SEA
AND WHEN WE HEAR TRUTH LIKE TWEED
OUR HEARTS ARE A DOOR WITH A KEY.

SAND
By PHIL KNIGHT

WE ARE NOW FOREVER TWO
LIVES IN A GRAIN OF SAND
NOT KNOWING WHY OR WHO
PLACES US HAND IN HAND.

THE GLASS IS IN THE HOUR
AND OUR TIME WAS OUT
LOVE WAS NEVER TO FLOWER
BUT THERE WAS NO DOUBT

DO NOT SAY HATE IN OUR NAMES
AND MAKE A CURSE OF SEPTEMBER
BUT WHEN IN YOUR WAR GAMES
ONLY THINK OF US AND REMEMBER.

THE LAST POST
By PHIL KNIGHT

They are the Queen and King
of a small city University

They are Post-Graduate Icons
and academic heroes of:

Post-Modernism
Post-Impressionism
Post-Feminism
Post-Structuralism
and many posts on the web site.

However they make a circuit
of the campus, not to walk past
the students collecting for
the Post-workers strike fund

that's the kind of thing
to make them go posthaste.
