Daleks trying to take Manhattan

A two parter set in New York in 1930, we get to see the delights of Daleks and Pig Men together, with the Pig Men being the Daleks slaves, of course.

It's the time of the Depression in America, and men are desperate for work - which is exploited by the Daleks and their middle man, Mr Diagoras (Eric Loren). The Daleks also want the Empire State Building finished quickly (they have their reasons).

Diagoras outlives his usefulness, as a human at any rate, and is to be transformed into a human Dalek. Dalek Sec is convinced the Daleks can only survive through evolution, and that he, as their leader, will sacrifice his Dalek purity to assimilate the soul of Diagoras. Dalek Sec then becomes a creature with one eye and fetching moving face tentacles. But the Daleks are not impressed with him. Dalek Sec shows compassion when the charismatic champion of the unemployed, Solomon (Hugh Quarshie), is exterminated. The Doctor is stunned by Dalek Sec's human behaviour, saying: "Daleks never change their minds."

There's also room for a love story between shrill musical star Tallulah and Laslo, which endures despite the fact that Laslo is well on his way to being a Pig Man! Martha also reveals her true feelings for the Doctor to Tallulah.

Very loud and dramatic music accompanies this gripping adventure, written by Helen Raynor, and the fate of the Daleks is...well, that would be telling.
